The Cactus Hill Site

Artifacts from Cactus Hill (located near the Nottoway River in Sussex County Virginia) have been carbon dated from 16,000 BC!!  It is possibly the oldest man site in the western hemisphere.

The Archeological Society of Virginia, founded in 1942, is a non-profit organization with regional chapters.  Membership benefits include the opportunity to participate in archaeological digs, a quarterly bulletin, a newsletter and membership card.  Chapters have monthly meetings with programs on various archaeological topics.

 The ASV also has an on-going certification program for becoming an archaeological field technician.
