Tamara Wilcox, M. M., Assistant Professor of Dance/Music
Director for Dance, has been at State University of New York, The College at
Brockport, since Fall 2011. Her first connections between music and dance were
made at Allegheny College where she studied modern dance extensively while
earning a B. A. in Music with a concentration in piano performance. After a
decade working as a music educator, collaborative performer, and Liturgical
Music Director, she returned to the dance world and began her career as a dance
musician. From 2000-2011, she held the full-time position of Professional Dance
Musician/Adjunct Faculty for the Dance Program at Eastern Michigan University,
while simultaneously completing her Master of Music in Collaborative Piano Performance.
Her work as a dance musician has included Regional Dance America Festivals, American
Ballet Theatre Summer Intensives, Royal Academy of Dance exams, and work as a
collaborative musician in master classes with numerous modern dance artists. Since
coming to Brockport, she has presented at NDEO conferences, hosted The 2013 Conference
of the International Guild of Musicians in Dance, played and taught for
American College Dance Festivals, served as an invited guest artist at the UC
Irvine Department of Dance, and performed at Western New York venues including The
College at Brockport, Rochester�s Geva Theatre, Rochester�s Downtown Cabaret
Theatre, the Rochester Fringe Fest, and at Nazareth College with the Rochester
City Ballet and members of the Rochester Philharmonic.
